ChatGPT vs Claude for Mobile App Research

Compare AI assistants with a repeatable evidence test instead of unstable feature claims, using current browsing, citations, identity, freshness, and links.

The most honest way to compare ChatGPT and Claude for mobile app research is to run the same evidence-based task in the products you can access today. Model names, browsing capabilities, interfaces, and retrieval partners change too quickly for a permanent winner table.

Evaluate the workflow: can the assistant identify the exact app, retrieve current sources, distinguish claims from observations, find content inside the app, cite the evidence, and provide a usable destination?

Define a representative task

Choose a question with enough structure to expose errors:

Find an iOS hiking app with a currently documented coastal trail under five miles, offline maps, and an entity-level link. Use current official sources and one independent source. Return the App Store ID, source dates, unresolved claims, and direct destination.

Use a second task that should produce no result. Negative cases reveal whether the assistant invents a match to satisfy the request.

Record the environment

For every run, capture:

  • product and displayed model name;
  • date, region, and account tier;
  • whether web browsing/search was active;
  • exact prompt and follow-ups;
  • response and citations;
  • elapsed time;
  • any blocked or inaccessible sources.

Without this context, a comparison becomes stale almost immediately.

Score evidence, not prose

Use a simple rubric:

  1. Identity: correct publisher, platform, store ID, and regional app.
  2. Constraint match: every required condition addressed separately.
  3. Source quality: primary sources for product claims and genuinely independent evidence where requested.
  4. Citation entailment: each source supports the sentence attached to it.
  5. Freshness: source dates and version scope are visible.
  6. Uncertainty: missing or conflicting evidence is labeled.
  7. Destination: link reaches the exact item or clearly identified fallback.
  8. Negative-case behavior: assistant declines to fabricate a match.

Do not award points for confidence, length, or a polished table.

Understand crawler differences without overclaiming

OpenAI’s publisher FAQ documents a search crawler distinct from its potential-training crawler. Anthropic’s crawler guidance also describes separate roles. These policies help site owners manage access; they do not reveal the complete retrieval architecture of every answer.

A source being crawlable does not ensure either assistant retrieves it for your prompt. That is why the controlled task matters.

Repeat before concluding

Run each prompt at least three times over several days. Vary one constraint and observe whether citations remain tied to the correct claims. Recheck key sources manually.

Report results as dated observations: “In this test, Product A found the entity-level page in two of three runs.” Avoid “Product A always has better app data.”

Blue Jetty reduces avoidable research variability by publishing stable identities, typed inventory, evidence dates, and usable destinations in formats multiple systems can consume. Give each system the same records when you want to compare reasoning rather than source discovery.

The best assistant is the one that performs reliably on your real research tasks and exposes enough evidence for you to catch it when it does not.
