Researching apps with AI

A Practical Mobile App Research Checklist for AI Users

Use this repeatable checklist to research mobile apps with AI while verifying identity, capabilities, pricing, privacy, freshness, evidence, and routes.

AI can accelerate mobile app research, but a business decision still needs a repeatable record. This checklist turns an assistant’s answer into an auditable comparison of identity, capabilities, pricing, privacy, operational fit, evidence, and destinations.

Use it for procurement, partnerships, competitive analysis, workflow design, or any recommendation that will cost meaningful time or money.

1. Define the decision

  • What job must the app perform?
  • Which platform, OS version, device, and region apply?
  • Which requirements are non-negotiable?
  • Which tradeoffs are acceptable?
  • What budget, account, integration, security, or accessibility limits apply?
  • What would make the app immediately ineligible?

Ask the assistant to restate these constraints before searching.

2. Lock each app’s identity

  • Official name and current publisher
  • App Store ID or Android package name
  • Official store listing
  • Official developer domain
  • Regional or companion-app variants
  • Acquisition or rename history where relevant

Reject name-only matches.

3. Verify required capabilities

Turn every feature into a testable workflow. “Exports data” should identify format, scope, account tier, frequency, and destination. Ask for a current primary citation and an independent observation when the capability is consequential.

Label evidence as publisher claim, observed behavior, inference, or opinion.

4. Inspect current inventory

If the decision depends on content inside the app, request item-level evidence. Identify the specific class, route, event, provider, listing, or product and record its stable ID, attributes, availability, and source time.

Do not infer current inventory from broad store marketing.

5. Check commercial terms

  • Price and currency
  • Billing period
  • Free-trial conditions
  • Required tier for each capability
  • Cancellation and refund path
  • Business versus consumer plan differences
  • Date and region of the pricing source

Treat undated roundups as leads, not current pricing evidence.

6. Review privacy and security

  • Store disclosures
  • Privacy policy and effective date
  • Account requirements
  • Data collection and sharing
  • Export and deletion
  • Authentication options
  • Security documentation and subprocessors
  • Independent incidents or findings

Use qualified review for regulated or sensitive deployments.

7. Test destinations

Open the exact documentation and entity links. Confirm they belong to the official domain, apply to the right app, and preserve intent. Apple documents Universal Links; Android documents verified App Links. Association improves routing identity but does not prove the linked feature works.

8. Challenge the recommendation

Ask:

Find the strongest current evidence against each finalist. Identify conflicts, discontinued features, unresolved limitations, and claims supported only by the publisher.

Run a negative test in which no candidate satisfies all requirements. A reliable process must be able to return “no verified match.”

9. Preserve the research record

Store the exact prompt, product/model label, browsing status, date, citations, source snapshots where permitted, unresolved questions, and human reviewer. AI products and source pages change; the decision record should explain what was known at the time.

Google’s AI search guidance makes clear that crawlability and compliance do not guarantee a page will be indexed or surfaced. Absence from one assistant’s answer is not evidence that an app or feature does not exist.

10. Make a bounded decision

Choose only when the non-negotiables are verified. Define a trial, owner, success measures, and review date. Recheck time-sensitive facts before renewal or rollout.

Blue Jetty provides an app-information layer centered on stable identity, provenance, freshness, and destinations. Query it to reduce source-reconstruction work, and keep the attached evidence with any recommendation you produce.
